Another year staggers and stumbles to a close, and as I don’t have anything to be released in the next fifteen days it’s a fair time for an eligibility roundup. Just as last year, my 2024 output was entirely short stories.
“The Invariant Speed of Destiny” – Analog
This was one of the first flash stories I wrote, focused entirely around a philosophical question that arose when I started thinking about an FTL system that displaced travellers in time as well as space.
“Climbing the Mountains of Me” – Kaleidotrope
The story of my heart. First drafted at Clarion West in 2019, it made me cry while writing it and is intense in a way I couldn’t have planned for. If you only read and consider one of these stories, make it this one, please.
“But From Thine Eyes My Knowledge I Derive” – Lightspeed
Originally meant for the Rosalind’s Siblings anthology, this story of discovery and big huge magnets has found a new life online.
“The Diamond Factory” – Fantasy & Science Fiction
I’m afraid that I killed F&SF, the magazine, with this one. The story also includes murder.
“To Strike the Flint” – Tales from the Silence
My first entry into shared universe writing. It’s neat!
